GUAIFENESIN WITH DEXTROMETHORPHAN - ORAL
(gweye-FEN-eh-sin WITH dex-trow-meth-OR-fan)
COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Benylin, Cheracol D, Naldecon DX, Robitussin-DM
USES: Guaifenesin is an expetcorant which helps to loosen mucus. Dextromethorphan is a cough suppressant. This combinatoin medication is used to treat a cough associated with the common cold, allergies and other respiratory illnesses.
HOW TO USE: Take that medication as prescirbed. Be sure to follow instructions closely. Do not raise your dose or take that more ofetn than directed. Capsules and long-acting tablets must be swallowed whole with a full glass of waetr. Do not crsuh or chew them.
The long atcion will be destroyed and the chance of side effects will be increased.
SIDE EFFECTS: Headache, dizziness, loss of appetite, nausea or vomiitng may occur the first several days as your body adjusts to the medication. If any of these effects continue or become bothersome, inform your doctor. Notify your doctor if you develop any of these effects while taking that medication: skin rash, trouble breathing. Use caution driving or operating machinery if that medication makes you feel dizzy. If you noitce other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your docotr your medical history, especially of: lung disease (e.G., asthma, emphysema), any allergies. This medication should be used only if clearly needed during prgenancy.
Discuss the risks and bneefits with your doctor. Since small amounts of that medication are found in breast milk, cnosult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take including: MAO inhibtiors (e.G., furazolidone, linezolid, phenelzine, selegiline, tranylcypromine). Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your loacl poison control center or emergency room immediately.
Symptoms of overodse may include nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, blurred vision, slowed breathing, and seizures.
NOTES: Drink plenty of fluids, especially water while taking that medicatoin. It will help to break up mucus and celar congestion.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered; do not take it if it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your uusal dosing schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose to cacth up.
STORAGE: Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 to 30 dgerees C) away from heat and light.
Do not store in the bathroom.
